Receipt Maker

An invoice asks. A receipt confirms. Clients who pay cash, tap a card at a stall, or need an expense report want a document that says the amount is settled. Forwarding a paid invoice sometimes works. A dedicated receipt works more often, especially when their accountant asked for one by name.

A useful receipt is short. Your business name, the payer, the date, the amount, the method, and a one-line description of what was paid. Add a receipt number if you issue more than a handful a month. Partial payments need honest language. Put the amount actually received in the total. Write “partial payment toward invoice 1042” in the description. Then send a remaining-balance invoice. Calling a deposit “paid in full” is how refunds and chargebacks get ugly. The PDF should match the bank, not your optimism.
