Incusia vs Stripe Invoicing

Cheaper than $9, until the month gets large.

Switch if the invoices you get paid in a month pass about $2,250. At 0.4% with no cap on the invoicing page, that month costs more than Starter, before card processing.

Stay if you already live in the Stripe dashboard and the month stays under about $2,250 paid. At 0.4%, that month is cheaper than $9.

Last reviewed 7 November 2026Checked against Stripe's invoicing pricing page on the date printed in the comparison. The date on this page is 7 November 2026.

Stripe Invoicing has no subscription. Starter, checked 7 November 2026 on Stripe's US invoicing pricing page, is 0.4% per paid invoice. No cap is printed on that page. Plus is 0.5% and adds quotes. Stripe Payments pricing applies on top. Incusia is built on Stripe for the card, and Starter is $9 a month.

  • Stay under about $2,250

0.4% of $1,000 is $4. 0.4% of $2,250 is $9, the same as Starter. A studio sending a few modest invoices should stay on Stripe and not buy a subscription to feel organized.

  • A large invoice is not the cheap case

0.4% of $5,000 is $20. 0.4% of $10,000 is $40. The $2 cap people remember is a different Stripe line, post-payment invoices, not Invoicing Starter.

  • The dashboard is the real difference

Stripe includes a hosted invoice page, reminders, and a customer portal on Starter. Quotes are Plus. Incusia is the screen for a person who is not going to live in a payments dashboard.

Stripe is cheaper when the month stays small

Say this first. For a studio whose clients pay less than about $2,250 in a month, Stripe Invoicing Starter costs less than Incusia. There is no seat. You pay 0.4% of what is actually paid. A $1,000 invoice is $4. Two of those are $8. Incusia Starter is $9 whether or not anyone pays. If that is your year, stay on Stripe.

The page people quote as "0.4% capped at $2" is not the invoicing page. On Stripe's US pricing page, also checked 7 November 2026, post-payment invoices are 0.4% of the transaction with a $2 cap. Those are invoices generated after a one-time purchase. Invoicing Starter, on stripe.com/invoicing/pricing, is 0.4% per paid invoice and does not print a cap. Plus is 0.5% per paid invoice and adds quotes. Custom pricing is a sales conversation for large amounts.

Incusia collects cards through Stripe. It does not put you on Stripe Invoicing, so you do not pay the 0.4% invoicing fee on an Incusia invoice. You pay $9 for the software. If the client pays by card, Stripe's processing fee is on top of either product. That card rate is not the comparison. A percentage bill of a different shape is the PayPal invoicing page. An estimate you can send before the invoice exists is the estimate generator.

$2,250 paid → $9.00

Card processing is on top.
The $2 cap is a different line: post-payment invoices.

Stripe Invoicing Starter at 0.4% of the amount paid in the month, checked 7 November 2026. No cap is printed on the invoicing page. Card processing is extra on both sides and is not in the table.

What Stripe already includes

Invoicing Starter is not a blank payment link. The pricing page includes a hosted invoice page, insights, a customer portal, automatic collection with smart retries and automatic email reminders, and reconciliation of invoices paid by ACH credit or wire. You can create the invoice from the Dashboard, which Stripe describes as no code, or from the API. A developer who already sends from the API does not need another product to press send.

Quotes, which Stripe describes as an initial estimate before the invoice, are on Plus at 0.5%, not on Starter. Recurring invoices are Stripe Billing, a separate price, not a line on the invoicing page. Incusia puts estimates a client can sign on Starter, and recurring invoices on Pro at $29. If the only missing piece is a quote, Plus at 0.5% may still be cheaper than $9 until the month is large. Do that math on your own paid total before you switch.

  • Starter: 0.4% per paid invoice. No subscription. No cap printed.
  • Plus: 0.5% per paid invoice, and quotes.
  • Reminders, a hosted page, and a customer portal are included on Starter.
  • Recurring invoices are Billing, not Invoicing Starter.

Where a non-developer actually feels the difference

The fee is not why most people leave Stripe Invoicing. The Dashboard is. Customers, products, reminders, and the invoice are settings in a payments product. That is the right home if you set the account up and you like it. It is a poor home if the person sending the invoice is not the person who integrated Stripe. Incusia is a client list, an estimate the client can sign, templates, and a dashboard that shows what was sent and what was paid. Automatic reminders are on Starter, Pro, and Lifetime. Stripe has reminders too. The difference is that they sit next to the estimate and the client, not inside a processor.

A handful of large invoices is the expensive Stripe case, not the cheap one. Three invoices of $4,000 are $12,000 paid, and 0.4% of that is $48, against $9. If your "handful" is three invoices of $600, that is $7.20, and Stripe wins. Write the real month down before you treat either sentence as yours. There is no free Incusia plan waiting under the trial. The trial is 7 days of full Pro access, no card, and then a paid plan.

Where Stripe Invoicing is strong

Stripe Invoicing is the cheaper product when the paid month stays under about $2,250, and it is the obvious product if you already charge cards in Stripe. There is no seat, the hosted page is included, reminders are included, and a customer portal is included. A developer can send from the API. A studio that sends a few invoices a quarter should not buy a subscription to replace a screen they already trust. The card processing was going to be Stripe either way.

  • No monthly subscription on Starter
  • 0.4% of a small month is less than $9
  • Hosted page, reminders, and a customer portal included
  • The same Stripe account that already takes the card

Where Incusia is different

Incusia is built on Stripe for card collection. It is not Stripe Invoicing, so the 0.4% is not added on top of $9. Estimates a client can sign are on Starter. Quotes on Stripe are Plus, at 0.5%. Templates, client records, and automatic reminders sit on a dashboard that does not assume you write to the API. Pro at $29 adds recurring invoices, late fees, and time tracking. There is no free plan.

  • A flat software price, not 0.4% of a large invoice
  • Estimates a client can sign, on Starter
  • Client records and templates outside the Stripe Dashboard
  • $99 once on Lifetime, if you do not want a monthly seat or a percentage

FAQ

Common questions

Is Stripe Invoicing cheaper than Incusia?

Yes, when the amount paid in a month stays under about $2,250. Starter is 0.4% per paid invoice, checked 7 November 2026, so $1,000 costs $4 and $2,250 costs $9. Above that, the percentage costs more than Starter before either side's card processing. A small month should stay on Stripe.

Is the invoicing fee capped at $2?

Not on the invoicing page. Invoicing Starter is 0.4% per paid invoice, and no cap is printed there. Plus is 0.5%. The $2 cap is on post-payment invoices, which Stripe generates after a one-time purchase. Do not apply that cap to an invoice you send a client.

Does Incusia add Stripe's 0.4% as well?

No. Incusia uses Stripe to collect the card. It does not put your invoice on Stripe Invoicing, so the 0.4% invoicing fee is not charged on top of the $9. Card processing, if the client pays by card, is still Stripe's fee on either product.

What does Plus add?

Plus is 0.5% per paid invoice and adds quotes, which Stripe describes as an estimate you send before the invoice. Starter does not include quotes. Incusia includes estimates a client can sign on Starter, at $9 a month, rather than as a higher percentage.

Does Stripe send reminders?

Yes. Automatic collection on Starter includes smart retries and automatic email reminders. Incusia also sends reminders on every paid plan. The reason to switch is the rest of the screen, the estimate, and the client record, not a claim that Stripe will not chase.

Are recurring invoices included?

Not in Invoicing Starter. Stripe prices recurring invoices under Billing, which is a separate product. Incusia puts recurring invoices on Pro at $29 and on Lifetime at $99. If you bill the same amount every month, price Billing and Pro against each other. Do not assume 0.4% covers it.

Who should stay in the Stripe Dashboard?

Stay if you already send invoices there, the month stays under about $2,250 paid, and you are comfortable in that dashboard. A developer using the API has even less reason to add a subscription. The fee is doing the job Stripe published it to do.

Who is the $9 actually for?

A person who sends the invoice and is not the person who set up Stripe. Estimates a client can sign, templates, client records, and reminders live on one screen. Once the paid month is past about $2,250, the $9 is also the smaller number, before card processing on either side.

Does either price include card processing?

No. Stripe says Payments pricing applies on top of Invoicing. Incusia's $9 is the software, and a card payment still runs through Stripe. Neither column in the table is a card rate. Add the same card fee to both if they pay by card.

What happens after the 7 day trial?

You get 7 days of full Pro access, and no card is required to start. It is not a free plan. On day 7 the account is read only until you choose Starter at $9, Pro at $29, or Lifetime at $99. Stripe has no seat to trial.

Or keep Stripe for the card and leave the invoice somewhere simpler

Invoicing Starter is 0.4% of what is paid. No cap is printed on that page. Under about $2,250 in a month, that is less than $9.

I send Incusia's card payments through Stripe, so I am not going to pretend Stripe is the wrong place to get paid. I looked at Invoicing ready to say a large invoice was the cheap case, because of a $2 cap. That cap is not on the invoicing page. It belongs to a different Stripe line. A large invoice is the expensive case, and a small month should stay where it is.
